Double-balloon video enteroscopy for diagnosis and treatment of small bowel disease

Record ID 32010001385
English
Authors' recommendations: The double-balloon video enteroscopy (DBE) system was developed as a diagnostic tool for small bowel disease. It can also be used for the endoscopic treatment of some types of small bowel disease. The DBE system consists of a video enteroscope, a shorter outer tube, a pressurecontrolled air pump, and two soft balloons. The double-balloon technique is based on the sequential inflation and deflation of two balloons, one attached to the distal tip of the enteroscope, the other fitted around a flexible outer tube, which allows for the stepwise progression of the enteroscope through most of or the entire small bowel.
