Authors' objectives:

The purpose of this report is to assess the efficacy and safety of percutaneous aortic valve replacement for the treatment of aortic stenosis.

Authors' recommendations: The studies published have poor evidence (no control groups, short follow up periods, etc.). Although the efficacy results are promising, the rate of complications is high. Controlled and randomized studies are required, both to support its use in patients who at present undergo surgical replacement and for patient who are inoperable. For the latter, it is still to be determined if the effectiveness of this procedure is higher than that of the other choices, including the non-interventional ones.
