Lung transplantation is a surgical procedure to replace one or both diseased lungs with a healthy lung or lungs from a cadaveric or living donor. The purpose of the procedure is to extend the life expectancy and enhance the quality of life for patients with end-stage lung disease who have no other medical or surgical treatment options.
