Record ID 32010000946
English
Authors' objectives:
Approximately 300,000 coronary artery bypass surgeries are performed in the United States each year. For this operation, a piece of the patient's own vein or artery is transplanted into the chest to re-route blood flow around blocked arteries to the heart. In approximately 80% of these operations the vein harvested for transplantation is the saphenous vein from the leg, traditionally harvested via open surgery through an incision that may stretch from the groin to the ankle.
