Authors' objectives:

Glaucoma refers to a group of optic disorders in which vision is lost and the optic nerve is damaged. In the United States, glaucoma affects approximately 2.5 million individuals, making it the second most common cause of blindness. Although glaucoma cannot be prevented, treatments to slow the progression of the disease are available. Treatment of glaucoma usually includes eye drops and/or oral medications that reduce intraocular pressure (IOP), the fluid pressure inside each eye. Glaucoma treatment may also require laser or incision surgery to open or remove blocked drainage canals inside affected eyes.
