Measurement of Carotid Intima-Media Thickness for Prediction of Clinical Vascular Events
Record ID 32010000897
English
Authors' objectives:
Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) is a measurement of the thickness of carotid artery walls that is usually assessed by external ultrasonography (US) and occasionally by internal invasive US catheters. Carotid IMT is considered an intermediate phenotype of early atherosclerosis in the artery walls, is used as a risk marker (predictor) of clinical vascular events, and as a surrogate endpoint in intervention studies.
