Multichannel intraluminal impedance testing for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Record ID 32010000864
English
Authors' objectives:
Multichannel intraluminal impedance (MII) testing is used in combination with pH monitoring (MIIpH) to assess the presence and composition of refluxate in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The goal of MII-pH is to increase the sensitivity of pH-metry by identifying patients with nonacidic reflux whose pathology may otherwise be missed with pH monitoring alone. The technique is used to guide treatment by distinguishing patients who may benefit from acidsuppressive therapy or reflux surgery from those who might not respond to these treatments because their symptoms are unrelated to reflux.
