Acupuncture is used as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) treatment for various acute or chronic pain conditions, including postoperative pain. When combined with conventional pharmacological management, acupuncture may reduce pain and/or decrease the amount of postoperative analgesia necessary for pain relief.
