Authors' objectives:

Assessment of the impact of interhospital transmission of radiological images in the content of neurosurgical emergencies.

Authors' results and conclusions: Clinical:65.% of all patients transferred in a neurosurgical unit were not admitted in this unit.57% of patients would not have been advised by neurosurgeons if CT images had been transmitted. Economic: An interhospital image transmission network involving the 15 most important hospitals of Greater Paris Area would be fully amorticized in 2 years.
Authors' recommendations: Recommendations:The CEDIT recommended the creation of an interhospital network involving 15 hospitals. The initial study would have to be redone to allow confirmation of the earlier findings. Other output or dissemination activity: The network has been set up and is functional since November 1994.
