Authors' recommendations: Several techniques for the non-invasive prenatal diagnosis of foetal chromosomal aneuploidy appear to be feasible and have promise. Although there is an obvious and unmet need to perform non-invasive foetal tests at the earliest possible gestational time, these techniques are still in development. Whether or not the small-scale studies reviewed in the 2008 and 2009 prioritising summaries can be translated into routine clinical practice remains to be seen. Therefore HealthPACT have recommended that this summary be disseminated throughout the jurisdictions and that no further assessment is warranted at this time, as once the tests are suitable for routine clinical use they will be picked up by normal horizon scanning activity.
