Authors' objectives:
1. To describe the natural history of UI associated with pregnancy and childbirth.
2. To estimate the frequency of UI.
3. To identify factors associated with the occurrence of UI and their predictive power.
Authors' recommendations:
The information obtained is important for UI emerge as a common health problem, however, hidden or undervalued. Risk factors identified in both pregnancy and at delivery are related to lifestyle and obstetric practices, and amenable to modification.
