Original Title: Brachythérapie et cancer de la prostate
Authors' objectives: This study aims summarise the available evidence on the use of brachytherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer. It summarises the evidence of brachytherapy's intended and unintended effects and compares these to treatments in current use.
Authors' recommendations: This report concludes that the evidence is too weak to demonstrate either greater efficacy of brachytherapy compared to other treatments or better cost-effectiveness. However, complications appear to be much less frequent with brachytherapy. In summary, this technology remains experimental until data are available to confirm its efficacy, particularly among men with localised, well-differentiated early stage prostate cancer with low pre-treatment PSA levels.
