The aim of the proposed research was to investigate methods for the risk adjustment of rates of SSI.
Authors' recommendations:
Study found current research literature does not allow surgery-specific or generic risk factors to be defined for surgical site infection (SSI). SSI definitions varied between surveillance programmes and potentially between hospitals.
