Endoscopic microdiscectomy (systematic review, primary research, expert panel)

Authors' objectives:

To evaluate the use of endoscopic microdiscectomy for the surgical treatment of lumbar disk hernias.

Authors' recommendations: The current evaluation of endoscopic microdiscectomy does not allow the CEDIT to recommend its adoption by the AP-HP at present. The CEDIT assumes that, as we have seen in other fields, this minimally invasive surgical technique will develop over the next few years. However, in view of the inadequacy of objective evidence the committee thinks that a protocol is called for to provide a comparative, randomized evaluation of endoscopic microdiscectomy versus open microdiscectomy, and carried out in Neurosurgery and Orthopaedics, the two specialisms which handle this complaint within the AP-HP.
