Magnetic field strength issues in magnetic resonance imaging
Marshall, D
Record ID 31995000008
English, French
Authors' objectives:
To examine MRI issues related to the magnetic field strength; requested by provincial governments.
Authors' results and conclusions:
a) There is a divergence of opinion as to the best field strength for the highest patient throughput; b) Costs (all categories) increase with field strength; c) Radiologists believe that MR images produced at higher field strengths are superior; however, it has not been shown that they are diagnostically more accurate or have any impact on patient management; d) There are few studies comparing diagnostic accuracy or impact on outcome of MRI at different strengths. Two studies under way will yield more information.
