Authors' recommendations:
Trial found no evidence to support the use of silver alloy catheters for short-term catheterisation. The nitrofurazone catheter was not clinically effective and this trial provides no evidence to justify its use. Some evidence for its microbiological effectiveness was found and economic analysis suggested that it might possibly be cost-effective for use in the UK NHS, although there was a high degree of uncertainty.
