A systematic review of arthroscopic subacromial decompression using the Holmium:YAG laser (update and reappraisal)

Authors' objectives:
To assess the literature relating to the procedure arthroscopic subacromial decompression using the Holmium:YAG laser, and compare it to literature reviews of the gold standard arthroscopic subacromial decompression (ASD) for patients with impingement syndrome without full-thickness rotator cuff tears. Recommendations about the safety and efficacy of this new, minimally invasive shoulder surgery will then be made.
Authors' recomendations:
This review found that the safety and/or efficacy of the procedure cannot be determined at the present time due to an incomplete and/or poor quality evidence-base. The procedure should only be used with caution and it is also recommended that further research be conducted to establish safety and/or efficacy.
