Authors' objectives:
To review the literature comparing traditional techniques of liposuction with ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL) to establish the best evidence for recommendations on the safety and efficacy of UAL.
Authors' recommendations:
This review found that the safety and/or efficacy of the procedure cannot be determined due to an incomplete and/or poor quality evidence-base. An audit is required (to assess both safety and efficacy).
The ASERNIP-S Review Group recommends that ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty should not be performed to contour female breast tissue.
