Authors' objectives:

To assess the most adequate hemodialysis frequency in relation to the clinical benefits for the patients in terms of morbidity, mortality, acceptability of this regimen of dialysis and quality of life. This report also aims to compare the cost of daily hemodialysis in relation to conventional hemodialysis techniques.

Authors' recommendations: The available scientific evidence and the results of present study support the hypothesis that patients treated with daily hemodialysis may have a better quality of life than those on conventional hemodialysis, a better control of the arterial tension and therefore a lower consumption of antihypertensive drugs. Daily hemodialysis might lead to a more efficient clearance of plasmatic substances, a reduction of ventricular hypertrophy and a better nutritional status. However, the information respect to the vascular access problems, EPOconsumption, mortality and hospital admissions is insufficient and of low quality.
