Effects of tissue growth factors after major liver resection
Flores Moreno S, Villegas Portero R
Record ID 32008100059

Authors' objectives:
To assess the efficacy and safety of administering growth factors to promote hepatic regeneration.
Authors' results and conclusions:
No study was found of the technique being performed in humans. By contrast, numerous preclinical stage studies are underway involving the different growth factors, and a large proportion of these are showing very promising results, with huge potential for development.
Authors' recommendations:
Advances in understanding of the mechanisms involved in hepatic regeneration have led to numerous compounds being considered as potential future therapies for promoting this regeneration. However, and in spite of the highly promising results of preclinical research underway, it is still too soon to make any judgement on their potential, since these developments are all at a very preliminary stage.
