Record ID 31996008264
Catalan, English, Spanish
Authors' objectives:

To produce a set of criteria to facilitate the appropriate use of low-osmolarity contrast agents in a selective utilization strategy. Phase I: literature review and information synthesis; Phase II: a consensus report including data from phase I and the contributions from different health care professionals who use this kind of contrast agents in their clinical practice.

Authors' results and conclusions: In November 1993, the Catalan Office of Health Technology Assessment elaborated an evaluation report assessing the current state of knowledge (clinical effectiveness and related cost) of low osmolarity contrast agents (report number: IN93011). This report was done upon request of some health care professionals. The main conclusion of this report were 1) Nowadays a selective strategy in the utilization of low osmolarity contrast should be reinforced in Catalonia as an appropriate and efficient strategy; 2) Clinical guidelines addressing specific criteria for this selective strategy should be developed. Through October to December of 1993, a panel of health care professionals consensuated the reference document based on the scientific evidence available at that time. This report constitutes the consensus report. The conclusions reached in this report will be reviewed and updated as more scientific evidence becomes available.
