Endovascular repair, abdominal aortic aneurysms

Record ID 32008000014
English
Authors' objectives:

Endovascular repair (EVR), also called endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) or abdominal aortic dissections involves the deployment of an expandable stent-graft within the aorta. The stent attaches to the vessel wall proximal and distal to the affected segment, which allows blood to flow through the stent, excluding the aneurysm from the arterial circulation. The stent is inserted via an intravascular catheter under radiographic guidance through the common femoral or iliac artery into the aortic aneurysm site. The goal of EVR is to prevent aneurysm enlargement and rupture without the morbidity associated with open surgical repair.
