Autologous platelet concentrate (APC) and autologous platelet gel (APG), also known as platelet-rich plasma or "buffy coat", are harvested from a patient's own (autologous) blood. APC and APG are topically applied to wounds or systemically administered to accelerate healing and reduce complications of chronic nonhealing wounds that fail to respond to conventional methods of wound treatment, or used as an adjunct to surgery to promote hemostasis and reduce wound complications.
