Authors' results and conclusions: Currently there is no effective screening test for ovarian cancer, therefore the development of an effective question based symptom index would be an important clinical tool. The symptom index investigated here showed positive outcomes and further studies are underway to investigate the use of the index in a prospective manner.
Authors' recommendations: The symptom index may be of use for the future development of Clinical Practice Guidelines for the diagnosis of women with ovarian cancer. Although HealthPACT has recommended that further assessment of this technology is no longer warranted, the contents of this summary should be forwarded to the College of General Practitioners for their consideration.
