Authors' objectives: 1. Assess the degree of GINF implementation in Andalusian hospitals. 2. Identify opportunities for improvements to the current version of GINF. 3. Draft a new version of GINF that incorporates any improvements identified.
Authors' recommendations: 1. The GINF guide is currently in place in the vast majority of public hospitals in Andalusia which consider it to be a useful tool in the work of their Pharmacy and Therapeutics Commissions (CFyTs). However, lack of knowledge regarding the existence of subsequent versions of the guide is notorious, and this has led to scarce implementation of the most recent versions. 2. A considerable number of opportunities for improvement have been identified, justifying the need to up-date GINF. Most of the opportunities detected are related to specific structural changes to the questionnaire, primarily in the section on efficacy, effectiveness and safety. 3. The need to establish channels of communication between the pharmaceutical industry and the CFyTs, through an adequate procedure, is blatantly clear. However, GINF was conceived as an educational instrument, to promote the necessary dialogue between clinicians and evaluators, and hence mechanisms need to be put in place to foster and guarantee that primary aim. 4. A new version of GINF has been produced. This new version includes an on-line electronic version, and an English language version of the pdf file, as well as complementary resources to the Guide.
