Endovascular repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections
Record ID 32007000377
English
Authors' objectives:
Endovascular repair (EVR) of a thoracic aortic aneurysm or dissection involves deployment of an expandable stent graft within the aorta such that it attaches to the vessel wall proximally and distally to the affected segment. Blood then flows through the stent, excluding the aneurysm from the arterial circulation. The stent is delivered to the aneurysm site via intravascular catheter, which is passed under radiographic guidance through the common femoral or iliac artery into the aorta. The goal of EVR is to prevent aneurysm enlargement and rupture by excluding the aneurysm from the arterial circulation, without the morbidity associated with open surgical repair.
