Robot-assisted surgery using da Vinci robot telemanipulation in prostatectomy

Llanos Mendez A, Villegas Portero R
Record ID 32007000110
English, Spanish
Authors' objectives: To assess the safety and efficacy of the da Vinci system, comprising a robot that requires only a short learning period, offers the possibility of performing laparoscopic surgery on a patient with 3D visualisation while ensuring freedom of movement for the surgeon as well as eliminating tremor.
Authors' results and conclusions: Two systematic reviews, one technical report and 6 original papers were retrieved. In all of these, the da Vinci system was compared with radical retropubic prostatectomy except for one study which used laparoscopic surgery for its comparison. An economic assessment study and a further publication with recommendations were also retrieved.
Authors' recommendations: The reviews retrieved conclude that the scientific evidence available does not provide enough information to draw any definitive conclusions regarding the efficacy and safety of robot-assisted surgery compared with conventional laparoscopy or open surgery.
Authors' methods: Systematic review
