Department of Science and Technology - Brazilian Health Technology Assessment General Coordination
Record ID 32006001479
Portuguese
Authors' objectives:

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of surgical treatment for morbid obesity by means of either laparoscopic or non- laparoscopic restrictive surgical approaches.

Authors' recommendations: Evidence is insufficient to support the effectiveness and safety of restrictive bariatric surgery as compared to the clinical treatment for patients with morbid obesity. There is also a lack of evidence for whether non-laparoscopic technique is more effective and safer than laparoscopic technique.
