Authors' objectives:
To evaluate the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, without gastric bandage.
Authors' recommendations:
Results from this review show that laparoscopic and laparotomic gastric bypass Roux-en-Y are effective and safe in the surgical treatment of morbid obesity. The return to laboral activities is faster in the laparoscopic group. Comorbidities were studied in non-randomized clinical trial and case-series, which did not permit pooling data in a meta-analysis. Laparoscopic group needs supervised training. During the curve of learning the complications are higher in this group. There is a necessity of randomized controlled trials to evaluate the evolution of comorbidities in the laparoscopic and laparotomic Roux-en-Y postgastric bypass.
