Authors' objectives:
To select types of medical devices and groups of patients that should have priority in the assessment of application of medical technology in home health care, with the aim of substituting hospital care by home health care.
Authors' results and conclusions:
The selection procedure has indicated that the following categories should have priority for systematic introduction: parenteral administration of antibiotics, cytostatics and analgetics, home-monitoring of risk-pregnancies, electrically adjustable bed for patients recovering from hip and knee implantations and air fluidised mattresses for nursing decubitus patients, patients with severe wounds and patients with bone metastases.
Authors' recommendations:
The application of the selected technologies in home health care should be evaluated by carrying out experiments. Furthermore, if this evaluation turns out positive, guidelines for proper use should be developed.
