Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), also called plasmapheresis, involves removal and replacement of the plasma component of blood. The goal of this procedure is to remove autoantibodies, cytokines, or other plasma-soluble factors that are believed to contribute to the symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
