There are two approved drugs in the category known as the taxanes: paclitaxel and docetaxel. These drugs are administered as single agents, in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents and/or hematopoietic growth factors, or in combination with other modalities, such as radiotherapy, to attempt tumor shrinkage or remission and increase survival time and survival rate in patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
