Authors' objectives:
Image-guided, stereotactic spinal surgery (IGS) for the treatment of degenerative, traumatic or tumorous instabilities of the spine, otherwise known as neuronavigation, combines preoperative imaging with navigational computer software to localize surgical targets. This technology is designed to facilitate presurgical planning and to provide intraoperative guidance to the surgeon. Intraoperative imaging may also be performed to provide localization and anatomical updates during surgery.
