Authors' objectives:
The term plethysmography is derived from the Greek plethysmo, to increase, and graphos, to write. The term refers to a methodology that measures changes in volume of the body, a limb, or a digit. Plethysmographic techniques can be used to measure blood volume changes, an indirect measure of blood flow, to detect decreases in blood flow indicative of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
