Authors' objectives:

Transmyocardial revascularization (TMR) and percutaneous myocardial revascularization (PMR) involve the use of a high-energy laser to create myocardial channels from the epicardial and endocardial surfaces of the heart, respectively, to allow oxygenated left ventricular blood to directly perfuse ischemic myocardium. The goal of TMR and PMR is to reduce angina pain and improve myocardial perfusion in patients with ischemic heart disease that is refractory to medical treatment and not amenable to traditional myocardial revascularization procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).
