Authors' objectives:

This study aims to assess the current evidence on deep brain stimulation for tremor andddystonia (excluding Parkinson's disease).

Authors' recommendations: 1 Guidance 1.1 Current evidence on the safety and efficacy of deep brain stimulation for tremor and dystonia (excluding Parkinson's disease) appears adequate to support the use of this procedure, provided that the normal arrangements are in place for consent, audit and clinical governance. 1.2 Patient selection and management should be carried out in the context of a multidisciplinary team specialising in the long-term care of patients with movement disorders.
