Authors' objectives:

Salivary estriol levels are measured every 1 to 2 weeks during pregnancy from 22 to 36 weeks of gestation, with the goal of predicting risk of spontaneous preterm labor and delivery. In the majority of pregnant women, plasma estriol levels rise at an increased rate 2 to 3 weeks before delivery, whether at term or preterm, and this hormone rise can be detected in saliva by this test.
