Authors' objectives:
Neutron beam therapy (NBT) is a type of external radiation treatment in which neutral charge subatomic particles (neutrons) are precisely targeted to a specific tissue mass by using a sophisticated stereotaxic planning and delivery system. NBT can also be administered as mixed-beam therapy (MBT), e.g., a combination of NBT with photon radiation. In theory, NBT may be more effective than conventional radiation therapy for the treatment of historically photon-radiation-resistant tumors that are characterized by lower tumor oxygen levels and a slower cell cycle.
