Authors' objectives:

Mechanical stretching devices and continuous passive motion (CPM) devices are used for the prevention and treatment of joint contractures of the extremities, with the goal to maintain or restore range of motion (ROM) to the joint. These devices are intended to replace some physical therapist-directed sessions by providing frequent and consistent joint mobilization under controlled conditions in a hospital setting or in the patient's home.
