Authors' objectives:

Macular translocation encompasses any surgical procedure that involves the deliberate detachment of the retina, with subsequent repositioning of the macula to a new location. The underlying surgical principle is to relocate the macula away from the abnormal blood vessels associated with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The retina is rotated to overlay an area of functional retinal pigment epithelium and choroid so that macular function can be stabilized or improved. Various surgical techniques have been developed to accomplish this movement.
