Authors' objectives:

Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is a noninvasive treatment for rotator cuff tendonitis that involves delivery of shock waves to a specific painful region of the shoulder to reduce pain and promote healing of the affected soft tissue. In its specific application to rotator cuff tendonitis, ESWT is also used to break up calcium deposits as a noninvasive alternative to surgical treatment in selected patients who have failed conventional medical therapy.
