Authors' objectives:

The therapeutic objective of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is to improve cardiac output for patients with severe heart failure by improving the timing of ventricular contraction. This is accomplished with the use of biventricular cardiac pacing. Recently, CRT devices that can also provide cardiac defibrillation have been introduced for patients with heart failure who are also at risk of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias.
