The aim of this report is to summarize the available information on use of prophylactic human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, particularly: Cervarix (GlaxoSmithKline Biologics) and Gardasil (Merck & Co., Inc.).

Authors' recommendations: Important considerations include vaccine efficacy; acceptability; integration into existing vaccine schedules; cost; role of cervical screening programs; and access, particularly for people in the developing world.
