Authors' objectives:
This report describes the standards of appropriate use of surgery in benign hypertrophy of the prostate (BHP).
Authors' results and conclusions:
After the meeting the number of indications decreased to 588. The results of scores reached a level of agreement of 65%. The rating of indications of surgery of BHP based on the scores of the second round were: 184 appropriate, 245 uncertain or 159 inappropriate.
Authors' recommendations:
These standards may be used for the preparation of guidelines for clinical practice, for knowing the percentage with which in practice this procedure has been made for appropriate, doubtful, or inappropriate reasons, and may also be used to determine the needs of the procedure.
