Minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty involves smaller incisions and less tissue dissection compared with conventional total hip arthroplasty. The types of prosthetic implants used in minimally invasive are the same as those used in conventional open arthroplasty, but may be inserted with the aid of image guidance and/or surgical navigation tools such as specialized lighting instruments and tissue retractors.
