Authors' objectives:

The objective of the assessment is to determine the safety, effectiveness, cost and legal implications of the appliance used in the orthodontic treatment of children.

Authors' recommendations: A comprehensive and systematic search of evidence was undertaken. However, there was insufficient evidence to draw any definitive conclusions about the safety, clinical effectiveness, cost-effectiveness of the appliance in early orthodontic treatment in children. It is recommended that research be undertaken locally to look into the efficacy and effectiveness of the prefabricated myofunctional appliance for early orthodontic treatment. There is some evidence of benefits from local use of the technology but these are only case reports.
Authors' methods: Systematic review
