Authors' objectives:
The objective of the research project was to define the capital costs and the operations and maintenance expenditures of radiological and surgical equipment, and to develop a computer aided calculation method for the life time operating costs of medical devices and technical systems in hospitals.
Authors' recommendations:
The medical equipment cost calculation method can be used in conjunction with the Building Cost Information program (WinTaku), which includes 550 space models for the cost calculation of hospital buildings and spaces. With the equipment and space cost calculation methods, the effects of technology investments on hospital budgets can be analysed at a preliminary planning stage.
