Original Title:
Espectrometría de masas cuantitativa tipo MALDI-TOF para el diagnóstico y seguimiento de pacientes con gammapatías monoclonales malignas
Authors' objectives:
To analyse and synthesise the available scientific evidence on the efficacy/effectiveness, safety and economic aspects, as well as the ethical, legal, organisational, social and environmental (ELOSE) considerations of MALDITOF
MS for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with malignant monoclonal gammopathies, especially MM and amyloidosis.
Authors' results and conclusions:
There is insufficient scientific evidence to evaluate the effectiveness of MALDI-TOF MS in the initial diagnosis of malignant monoclonal gammopathies, since the studies analysed only included patients with a previous diagnosis. The identified studies suggest its potential role in therapeutic monitoring of MM and in MRD detection, but further studies with larger patient cohorts and more robust methodological designs are required. Additionally, methodological variability and the lack of evidence on cost-effectiveness, as well as its acceptability, feasibility and equity limit the adoption of
this technique into clinical practice.
