Botulinum toxin (BTX) is used to relieve muscle spasm for a variety of movement disorders. The basis for this therapy is the ability of BTX injections to block the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, thus inhibiting contraction of the injected muscle.
