Original Title:
Dispositivo intrasacular para el tratamiento endovascular de aneurismas cerebrales
Authors' objectives:
To analyse the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of the Contour Neurovascular SystemTM (CNS) device in the endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms.
Authors' results and conclusions:
For the summary of the evidence on the safety and efficacy of the CNS device for treating cerebral aneurysms, 11 studies were included: 1 systematic review and 10 individual retrospective studies.
The SR focused on assessing the safety and effectiveness of the CNS device in the treatment of wide-neck aneurysms, while individual studies analysed the efficacy and safety of the procedure in various types of aneurysm, in some cases comparing results with those of another intrasaccular device, such as the Woven EndoBridge (WEB), or traditional coil embolisation.
The studies identified did not compare the results obtained with those after surgical treatments, given that the CNS device was designed to facilitate the treatment of patients with aneurysms who could not be treated with surgery. On the other hand, studies were identified assessing the use of this device to manage aneurysms at any location, and mixing ruptured and unruptured aneurysms, when there may be differences in the results obtained in each of these scenarios.
The evidence identified suggests that the CNS device may be a safe and effective alternative option for treating intracranial aneurysms. Nonetheless, larger high-quality studies are required, with longer follow-ups and analysing the results for each type of aneurysm separately, to obtain better data for guiding the selection of the best candidates for this type of treatment.
Authors' methods:
A review of the evidence was carried out to identify studies assessing the efficacy and safety of the CNS intrasaccular device. In May 2024, specific searches were performed with strategies adapted to each database, using specific search terms associated with this technology, as well as with the disease under study, “contour” and “aneurysm”.
